Today's Korean restaurant recommendations

Apple House,' a famous Tteok-bokki restaurant near Isu Station.

Apple House

Not an ad, a restaurant I ate at with my own money.

Apple House is Famous *즉떡Juk-seok Tteok-bokki restaurant.

I think..This style of tteokbokki is hugely nostalgic for Koreans and a must-try experience for visitors in Seoul!

*즉떡 = 즉석 떡볶이 = Made-to-Order Tteokbokki

# Store & Seating

Apple House22656
Apple House4

The first image was quite different in scale and atmosphere from the shop my sister and I had imagined,

which surprised me greatly.

Apple House5

Turns out it was the small Juk-seok Tteok-bokki(즉떡) restaurant my sister and I had imagined,
but they expanded their business and moved to this much larger location.
(The shop is located on the second floor.)

Apple House6
Apple House7

The seating was open, and there were several staff members present.
It was a spacious place I'd never been to before... but somehow,
Why does this space feel familiar and not awkward at all?

Apple House8
Apple House9

And the most disconcerting part was that the counter wasn't actually a counter.
No menu in sight either (though I might have just missed it).
How to describe it... a restaurant where order exists within chaos, perhaps?

Anyway, the only certainty is this: I'm convinced it's definitely a great spot.
Now, let's place our order.

# Menu & Ordering

I couldn't find the menu, so I grabbed this photo from the internet.

  • Juk-seok Tteok-bokki for 2 / 즉석떡볶이 2인분 / Juk-seok Tteok-bokki du-gea
  • Add 2 boiled eggs / 삶은 계란 2개 추가 / Sal-meun Gye-ran du-gae chu-ga
  • Add cabbage, (ramen, chewy noodles), and cheese / 양배추, (라면, 쫄면), 치즈 추가 / Yang-bae-chu, (Ra-myeon, Jjolmyeon), Chi-jeu chu-ga
  • 1 portion of rice for stir-frying / 볶음용 공깃밥 1개 / Bok-eum-yong Gong-git-bap han-gae
  • 1 portion of spicy stir-fried dumplings / 무침군만두 1개 / Mu-chim-gun-man-du han-gae

This is what we ordered for two people.

Apple House24

And the ramen and jajangmyeon...
I don't remember if they were included as standard or if I added them...

If you scribble your desired menu items on the paper, they bring a card reader and process payment immediately.
If additional items are ordered later, they take the card for payment and return it with the receipt.

It was quite... embarrassing, lol
But my sister who came with me summed up the whole situation with one line:
'Ordering here must be tough for foreigners, huh?' - We were flustered at first too.

# Ordered Menu

Apple House28

Actually, I initially added two more cabbages,
but the person taking my order reduced the quantity, saying it was too much.
(But her advice was wise.)

Apple House29

Bubbling and simmering
I'm waiting for my food so much
How delightful the anticipation is~

Apple House30

We didn't order the seasoned dumplings at first,
but since every table around us was eating them,
we ordered some as well.

And that turned out to be a very wise choice.

Apple House31

How can it be so crispy after being marinated in sauce?
The sauce is a spicy-sweet gochujang-based sauce—
a flavor no Korean could possibly dislike.

While it might be too spicy for some to handle,
it's extremely rare for anyone to find it unpalatable.
This shop's signature dish—dang dang dang—

Apple House41

Once it starts bubbling away, I wait,
but thanks to the cabbage, our tteokbokki seems to have turned into a broth-based version.

So I couldn't add cheese to the tteokbokki.
I changed the cheese's purpose to a strategy for later, with fried rice.

While waiting for the seasoning to soak into the rice cakes, I ate the eggs and ramen. The chewy noodles first.
It was quite delicious. A familiar taste, but a delicious one.

Apple House55

The taste of moderately cooked tteokbokki is neither too sweet nor too salty,
just the right amount of spicy, with that familiar chewy rice cake texture
perfectly infused with just the right amount of sauce for satisfaction.

Apple House50

After finishing the rice cakes, I scooped out the noodles and vegetables and asked for fried rice.

At first, I was like, ‘Huh?’ when only seaweed powder was sprinkled on the rice, but then she poured the rice into the pot. Wow...
Sesame oil aroma? Wow... Did she pour sesame oil into the rice bowl?

The first wave of amazement hit me—this rich, savory flavor could only come from pouring it on generously without holding back.

Then, as if executing our earlier strategy to repurpose the cheese, the owner casually added it without a word, tossing it in with a thud and stir-frying it with a sizzle.
That’s when the second wave of amazement hit me hard.

Apple House51

What's truly amazing is how well the cheese melts without sticking to the pan.
Her seasoned touch while stir-frying was so impressive, my sister and I just stood there mesmerized.

And the flavor? Absolutely top-notch.
How does she achieve such depth with so few ingredients?
Koreans always finish with a carb feast.
I love this culture so much❤️‍🔥

A place like this deserves Michelin certification.

# Overall Review : ★ ★ ★

This place is the top of the top Tteokbokki restaurant.
I've conquered countless instant tteokbokki spots since my school days,
but this one is seriously good—taste guaranteed. If you love tteokbokki, you absolutely must try it.

Rather than the tteokbokki itself, the stir-fried dumplings and fried rice with cheese are the real deal.
Make sure to order both of those dishes!!
